Major Project - Major Problem

C'est la vie...c'est la guerre...c'es la pomme de terre.  Which, apparently, is not a French saying at all.

So...as those in my educational technology class know (#ITA575) we are tasked with taking on a major task for this semester.  We can either build a lesson using online technology (which frankly I am building lessons in all of my classes this semester, so I must admit I am not as wild about that idea) or to teach ourselves a skill and use technology to learn and document.  So, I am thinking of using this time to learn a bit of French.  Why, you may ask?

Cue the standard TOP TEN LIST!!

#1 - To understand this beautiful song.

#2 - So I can finally understand all of the French sayings I use such as joie de vivre or mon ami.

#3 - Maybe I can finally watch a few foreign films on my shelf.

#4 - Okay...another song.  This one appears all the time and has been covered by such greats as Earth Kitt.

#5 - To understand French cuisine.  I want to learn how to bake French bread and eat the way the French do.  Plus, I would like to have some idea of what I am ordering in a French restaurant.

#6 - To eventually visit France.  I mean, come on.  Who doesn't want to see this at some point?

#7 - To understand French art.   Who doesn't want to spend time looking at this?  (The Degas painting...not my hand...though it is looking lovely.)

#8 - To read Moliere in his original tongue.

#9 - To finally learn all of the differences between French wine.

#10 - To feel the accomplishment of speaking French to my Francophone friends.

So...I'm starting this journey.  Have already checked out this site.  What other recommendations do folks have?  Anyone have a good suggestion for a CD?  I am thinking of trying to use all of the time that i am driving.

Au revoir.

  2. Good point. As a historian of England, they all don't always get along with France.

  3. Ma langue preferee est le Francais. Mais, j'ai oublie tout! It is my favorite even though I teach Spanish! I love that you posted a link to Linguafolio, it is a good one! If you check out my blog I have a few sites to help with learning (teaching!) a foreign language. Bon jour☺
